Progressive 940 shocks & other changes to my 2004 SEEG
« on: October 29, 2010, 01:22:33 PM »

I bought a set of Progressive 940 shocks for my 2004 SEEG, finally got a chance to put a few miles on them this morning.

I bought this bike earlier this month, the stock suspension was brutal riding it home across Mississippi.  I played with air pressure some, but if I got enough air in it to prevent bottoming, it may as well have been a hard tail.  The front end rode like a Cadillac compared to the rear end.

I put the 940's on a couple of days ago, and had only been able to take a couple of short rides. The preload is adjustable with four reference marks. At first I set it on the second reference mark (second groove). This seemed too stiff, so I backed it off to about 1 1/2, now it seems to be about right.

I was able to put about 50 miles on the new shocks today, what a difference!  Now the rear end is very plush and the front seems a bit harsher than the rear.  These are great shocks.  I was looking for potholes and bumps to try them out and I think I may have lightly bottomed out once, maybe.

Very happy with these shocks.  We have a 500 mile ride planned for this weekend, should be a good test.

I've made a few other changes too ...

HD "Nostalgic" grips ... Really like these, had them on my last bike and love the added grip.
Seat from a 2005 SEEG ... Also had one of these on my last bike, and liked it as well as anything else I'd tried (Road Glide seat, Comfort Stitch, Corbin, LePera, Mustang)
Kuryakyn Panacea lighting ... I lead a lot of rides and want to be seen
Laydown license plate frame
Foot boards, passenger pegs, and brake pedal pad from a Street Glide to replace stock parts (chrome peeling)

Have a few more changes in the wings, waiting for my J&M 7.25 speakers to get here before I open up the fairing.

J&M 7.25 speakers
Longrider 8 inch Ultra windshield
Triple windshield bag

And a few more goodies that aren't here yet.

Chopped tour pak ... will have to paint to match
H-D Airstrike 18 inch front wheel (from 2011 Street Glide) ...  set up for 2002-2007 Baggers
Road King Custom chrome rear wheel (stock wheels have peeling chrome, will eventually have them rechromed)

Finished up that 500+ mile ride yesterday, I can't say enough good things about these progressive 940 shocks. I had Works Street Trackers on my last bike, and these are better, and there is no comparison to the factory low profile shocks.

We rode some pretty rough roads between here (Fort Worth) and Houston.  One bump in particular lifted me up out of the seat. But even then there was never a harsh bottoming out. I can feel the shocks lightly bottom out on a big jolt, but there is never that harsh teeth rattling/spine crushing shot that I was getting from the stock low profile air shocks.

The Progressive 940's were money well spent.

My new wheels are on the Pumpkin.  Rear is from a Road King Custom, a chromed Street Glide wheel. The front is an 18 inch Harley
airstrike wheel, 18 inches, meant for a 2011 Street Glide. Tires are Pirelli Night Dragons.

The exhaust end caps are the only thing left to fix.

Hey Warhawk,

What did it entail to install a 2011 front wheel on a 2004 SEEG ?

I have a Agitator wheel off a 2010 CVO Streetglide I want to stick on the front of my 2004 SEEG.

Thanks

What's the part number on the shock that you are using? Do the 940's come in different lengths, If so, what length are you using? Where's the best price found? Thanks.

I bought it on EBAY and the previous owner had converted it to 1 inch bearings.  According to what he told me, he used the bearings and internal spacer for his '06 Street Glide on this wheel.

You can also use the Willie Shiney kit (available on EBAY) as the new 25mm axle will work on the older bike's forks.

As far as I know the 940 shocks are all the same.

Couldn't agree with you more, my 940 shocks were a huge improvement over
the stock (scrap metal) shocks. Definitely money well spent.

Do the 940's give it the lowered feel the stock air shocks had ?

I just did a near 1800 mile trip with my 940's and they were great. A HUGE improvement over the crappy stock air shocks. They are the same height as stock Street Glide/Road Glide Custom shocks.
