Hydraulic Clutch Master Clyinder Leaking
« on: July 02, 2012, 01:23:38 PM »

A couple of weeks ago I noticed my hydraulic clutch master clyinder leaking slighty around the rubber gasket. Checked the two screws that hold the top on and they were tight.  Took the the master cylinder lid off and the reservoir was completely full of fluid (above the fill indicator).  I removed some fluid, cleaned the gasket/lid, and reassembled.  When I checked the fluid the bike was upright with the handlebars square.

My question is: the manual states to check the master cylinder fluid level with the bike standing upright (not on jiffy stand) and to "turn the handlebars so the top of the clutch master cylinder is level."  Does the mean to keep the bars square, or does it mean turn them to the right?

2nd question: anyone have this issue with their bike....mine is a 2010 SESG.

To get the master cylinder level you will need to turn the bars to the right, not straight ahead.  And you want the fluid level to be slightly below the full line; as the clutch wears the fluid level in the master cylinder increases and eventually the clutch won't engage fully if the fluid level gets too high.  Be very careful to keep the fluid off other surfaces, since it will damage paint.
