Passenger comfort
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:52:07 AM »

Has anyone experienced issues with a passenger not being comfortable as far as backrest and leg placement? My wife rode on the back of my '05 SEEG last night for the first time and says it's very uncomfortable. It has the leather tour pack which seems to place the backrest slightly forward of where a traditional backrest would be. And the passenger foot boards seem a little low for her. Yep, she's short and...well...curvy.  ;D

I noticed last night that my friends '06 SG seems to have a few inches of room between the passenger floor boards and the saddlebags. I'm assuimg this is just a design difference? I've never really looked at these things before and now they're painfully obvious.

I'm looking for suggestions for a detachable backrest that is either adjustable or sets back a couple of inches further. Or anything else that I may not be thinking of right now. And relocation possibilities for the passenger floor boards.

I have used this to move the tour pak and it makes a huge difference to the passenger!

Doubletap, yes, I've had that experience and wound up trading my 05 CVO SEEG plus lots on money for a new 2009 CVO Ultra Classic in 2009, which was a big mistake, because while my wife was happy with the cushy ride and big ass saddle, I was not and sold it this spring and bought a used 2011 CVO SESG with 785 miles on it. I love the new bike, but am sure she will not and you know what, I am totally ok with that. Who's bike is it anyway and who spends the most time on it?  :soapbox:

I'm confused...you say you have a 2005 SEEG, but it has a leather TP.  It didn't come that way, so has that been changed?  The stock SEEG seat is not very comfortable for either driver or passenger...most folks change the seat out.  If the TP needs to be back further, George Anderson's relocation plate will take care of that.  Depending on what exhaust system you have on the bike, Kury makes a nice set of passenger pegs that will get her feet higher up and back, or higher up and forward.  http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/1596/Adjustable-Passenger-Pegs

Terry, yeah, he posted somewhere here about buying a used SEEG with an '06/'07 SEUC TP.

I have a comfort stitch seat (basically, the same seat that Ultras come with stock) that I used on my '04 SEEG with a king TP whenever momma rode with me.  I found the thread on here where photos of it were once posted, but site software upgrades have since erased them.  But, like Terry mentioned, the stock SEEG seat is pretty much useless for the passenger, especially, where it would put you in relation to the backrest on a tour-pak.

I traded the bike on a '12 SEUC.  If you have any interest in the seat, let me know and I'll post or e-mail pics.

The passenger footboards on a SEEG are adjustable for height.  See if yours are in the bottom of the three available holes; if so remove the bolt and move the bracket up higher.

As for the Tourpak backrest, yes even with the chopped TP that came with the '05's the backrest pad was too close.  Moving the TP back an inch or two will make a big difference.  Check out the relocation kit from George Anderson that was mentioned previously.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm new to all this SEEG - SEUC stuff. I wasn't aware, until someone here clued me in, that the leather tour pack wasn't original. And I just learned that the passenger floor boards were adjustable? Definitely need to check that out. That could be the problem if they're adjusted to the top position.

I did find the Kuryakan adjustable mounts earlier and those look promising. Does anyone here have those installed?

Does anyone know if the relocation kit from George will work on the leather tour pack? If not it looks like I might be designing and building my own.

Keep the great info coming. I'm learning!  :2vrolijk_21:

I ordered one of the Kuryakyn relocator kits for the leather tourpak.  The kit was about $115.00 for Eastern Performance and is supposed to be here on Monday.  I'll let you know if it works or not.

Ok, looks like I'm getting a tour seat (thanks 110tHunDer) but looking at making more adjustments. Has anyone ever moved the saddle bags towards the rear? I'm talking only 1-2 inches. Old ladys calves are rubbing on the ridge that runs around the bag lid. Moving the floor boards to the top hole helped but more adjustment is needed. May have to move floor board mounting forward a little, which kind of gets in my way though. I'll have to wait and see what difference the new seat makes. Moving the bags rearward slightly would solve a lot.

Sounds like you need to get her feet up higher.  Have you considered the mounts that come on the new CVO bikes?  http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448769744&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302293039&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302293039&locale=en_US&locale=en_US&bmUID=1339954593784&bmLocale=en_US

There is a downside to those...if they are too much forward, they get in the drivers way when backing the bike up.  It is something you get used to though.  I have my wife's one notch forward of as far up as they will go and it's not too bad on me.

my wifes complaint on 09 SE was not as much room between me and the tour pac as compared to my 2000 electra glide -- I did a little research and decidied on the relocator made by George Anderson --- you can order directly from him

Just to confirm...I installed the Kuryakyn relocator kit this morning and yes, it does work on the leather tourpak that came standard on the 2006-07 SEUC.  Moved the pak back a bit, hopefully it will be enough.  I will know when the wife gets home from work today.

Have you got the Kuryakyn's part number? Is it a simple relocator or a fully adjustable?
