Invisible Helmet
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:10:56 PM »

Was thinking that maybe I should become a dealer for these (especially if they could come up with a motorcycle version) …so, I sent the Swedes an inquiry.   Bjorn has a thick accent and I don’t speak Swedish…best I could come up with was a Sven and Ole joke….only to find out that was the wrong country….dagnabbit!
Still a great concept!   Would drive the LEO's nuts in helmeted states.

I wonder at what velocity, angle, Gforce it would deploy on a motorcycle, looks like its for a pedal cycle.

Kinda reminds me of the video I saw of airbags on a motorcycle... wasn't that on a Goldwing? :D :D

Kinda reminds me of the video I saw of airbags on a motorcycle... wasn't that on a Goldwing?

Yes it is. My neighbor Jay S. has an '08 Wing with airbag. It came into development after the multitude of studies showed that a significant number of motorcycle fatalities were frontal impacts that the rider did not survive. The airbag is used to cushion and decelerate the body upon impact thereby lowering the risk of fatal injuries. Of course we all know that NOTHING, i.e. seat belts, airbags, crumple zones, energy absorbing material, safety glass, ABS, traction control, helmets, body armor, inflatable vests, yada,..yada,.. yada,... makes any vehicle 100% safe. Riding a motorcycle is a risk we all take. Just how we mitigate that risk is up to us.

While that helmet would probably not work for a motorcycle, I can forsee how that technology could be altered in the future for motorcycles. Perhaps the helmets could be thinner and lighter and still have a hard shell. Upon impact air bladders would inflate and either encase, or line the helmet to provide more energy absorbtion. At the same time an inflatable collar would engage helping stabilize the head onto the shoulders thereby reducing neck injuries due to over rotation. Gauntlet gloves would inflate to stabilize wrists and protect hands. All of that could be incorporated with the existing technology of the inflatable vest creating a "Michelen Man" protection system....LOL.

But I could be wrong on all of that.
