As the title says. Tons of info on here. Don't have the time to sort through them all.

A buddy has the same bike as mine (2011 sergu) and is thinking of selling it due to the heat issues. I told him my D&D set up with the tuner seems to be doing pretty good. Only drawback is the cost. (Mechanic that supposedly did the work said around $2200 for what I have. Mine was done already when I bought it)

Is there any way to get rid of the cats without having to get it tuned?

If someone can link some of the other threads that they're familiar with, I can find the time to read them.

Thanks

I don't have any forum links handy on the cat removal.  Check this video.  Don't see anything in the comments about a retune.  Maybe you can find out from whoever did his whether he had a dyno tune after.  Seems pretty simple.  Cut it open, chisel out cat, send to welder.  Oh, he should get some ceramic coated headpipes, I think fullsac are.

I'm interested to see how it works out so let us know ok?

Getting rid of the cat will help, but a lot of heat comes from how lean the bike runs from the factory due to the EPA. IF you get rid of the cat, you will also free up the exhaust which will pass more air which will require more fuel, so....either way the bike will run much better and cooler after the tune.

For about $1,100, you can get a Fullsac map, TTS Mastertune, ceramic coated header, and baffles for existing CVO muffler bodies.  Won't find a more cost effective setup.  This is probably the least costly setup.

So far this sounds like it would suit him better. I'll start doing my research then. I've seen that name a whole lot on here.

Tts fulsac and a good tune.   Its gonna set him back about 1500.  Take the lowers off too. I don't even miss them and the bike rides so much nicer too. Seems to lose some wind.  :2vrolijk_21:

X2.  That's the cost if you do the work yourself, which is all but a no-brainer.  If you've got basic tools, a drill, and a laptop, this change can all be done in your home garage.  Otherwise, there will be about a 3-4 hour labor charge.  If you purchase everything from Fullsac, a canned map will come with it that may be good enough without even getting it Dyno tuned.  My bike (same bike) runs fine with the canned map.

All good info but I want to hear from someone who has removed the cat from stock pipes without taking any more steps.  Will the stock ecm compensate at all for the diff in exhaust pressure?  What will be affected and how should it run?

Thanks

Fulsac do and exchange header program and you can replace the baffles in the OME muffler for fulsac, that’s what’s on my 09 SERG.OBB

If you look at the video again, at the end, it says Stage I and Mastertuner, which I assume means a TTS Mastertune device.

In a word...No, the stock ECM will not appropriately adapt to removal of the Cat.  It will run too lean.  If a person ONLY did slip on mufflers, the ECM will likely adapt to that small change, but beyond that, NO.

Even a bone stock bike can benefit from a good tune, just in terms of better drivability.

x2 on removing the lowers.  I removed mine and it made a world of difference!  In my opinion, it improved the looks too and gives me less to clean bugs off of.  Hey, in South Louisiana, we have bugs some of you have never heard of.  Consider yourselves lucky!  Ride safe.
