Harley Heavy Breather and Fullsac
« on: June 26, 2012, 10:07:35 PM »

Hi All. I could use a little help.
I Have a Fullsac Stage 1 2009 CVO Glide. All was fine until I changed to a HD Heavy Breather. Now it hard or no starts on warm engine restarts. It acts almost as if it is too lean with some popping as it's cranking trying to start. From what I was told the Screaming Eagle Air Filter assembly that came on the bike when it was new has a similar flow so I'm not sure if I have a malfunction or if it's the Heavy Breather. The bike ran awesome with the Fullsac kit and the original filter. I liked the looks of the HD Heavy Breather so I bought it and installed it. The bike started up cold and ran fine. I went to the gas station to refuel and the bike would not restart until it cooled down. Ever since I installed the Breather the bike will not start if hot on a re-start. I tried with the TTS to richen the fuel mixture in the low RPM range to see if it needed to be enrichened but still no success. Has anyone had a similar experience or can someone be of help. I was an auto tech for many years so I am somewhat mechanical but I can't figure it out. Maybe a temp sensor ar something? Or can just be too lean... Any help would be greatly appreciated.I did call Fullsac and left a message but did not get a return call.

Thanks,
Richie

If it were me, I'd make a few v-tune runs and see if that doesn't make things better by itself.  At least then I'd have better-calibrated VE tables on top of which to try other adjustments if needed.  The process can also be used to see if maybe there's an air leak you created somewhere.

Did you change the breather bolts too?? You absolutely must!!! Using the stock bolts will cause all sorts of grief.

I'm not sure what the V-Tune software is capable of. Maybe I should read about it and see how to set it up on the bike for a diagnostic tool. As far as using stock bolts, the installation instructions say "proper installation of this kit requires breather screws (Part No. 29465-08), which are OE equipped on 2008 and later Touring models..... My scoot is an 09' but I will go out and remove them to see.... Maybe the CVO with the original Screaming Eagle air filter does NOT use these 1.525" length screws. Although they seemed to be no problem on install. I'll do it and check back
thanks,
Richie

Right. The bolts on the non-cvos are different. You need the ones from a non cvo. Been there, done that.

Holy Cow! I think thats it... I took off the assenbly and the bolts are more like 2.225 long.....When I look carefully... the crankcase vents in the housing and the bolts don't line up! Probably letting outside air into the housing instead of crank vents..Giving me a vacuum leak.... When I put the bolts in the original housing they sit right in line with the oil port....Unlike what I have now.  As you know that thing does not snap right on so it will be down for the day until I get the bolts but I would almost bet that that is the issue... thanks! I'll keep you posted.

I hope that was your problem!

Regarding the TTS... read the Tuning Guide. You can tweak pretty much any settings you want across the various tables and tuning constants. The TTS is the best tuner out there - and the new ones will be even better! Get the Cam Selector settings correct for you cams first, then do some VTune data collection runs and let VTUNE adjust your VE tables with the collected data. That alone will make a WORLD of difference in your tune. There are a lot of other tables you can change with the TTS as well - main lambda, PE Mode, Accel Enrichment/Decel Enleanment, spark advance, EGR, etc. The tuning guide discusses all of these tables.
