Does anybody live/work near Lancaster HD
« on: August 08, 2006, 03:00:48 PM »

Guys,

My bike is down and in need of some fuel lines. The ONLY place that has them is Lancaster HD. I can't get them locally because the parts are on back order until September. I am preparing for a ride in a few weeks. I spoke to Jennifer in the Parts Dept and THEY WON'T SHIP IT. She has put them aside with my name on them.

Would someone be able to go to Lancaster HD, pick up the parts and ship them to me down here in South Los Angeles? Of course I will pay for ALL Charges and then some. It would really help me out.

What are the part numbers ? Perhaps the N.Calif chapter can locate them up this direction and get them down to you ?

CVOJoe,

Thanks for the quick reply, but I think I have it worked out now.

After a few mins on the phone with the Parts Manager at Lancaster HD, of CA., the situation appears to be resolved. She explained that per HD service policy, one dealership cannot "sell" parts to another dealership if the parts are on backorder and unavailable nationwide, which these are. They can however, sell them to customers.

I explained to her that I am a "customer". I'm just geographically displaced by some 80 miles. And since her dealership cannot take credit cards over the phone, and she cannot ship it to me, and she cannot sell them to my local dealer, my ONLY recourse is to drive out there and buy it in person.

From our conversation I think she understood that I am really stuck between a rock and a hard place.
So she agreed to ship them to my local dealer, and I should have them tomorrow afternoon.

The power of prayer is amazing!

You aren't alone, that's where I was thinking also. [smiley=confused5.gif] Good thing it got resolved before someone near there headed to that dealer.

;D  A couple of us were having a similar discussion just this past weekend, on which side of the mountain they lived on - this or that - east or west - and going home north or south.  Everything is relative.   ;D  Glad to hear you got the lines you needed.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Good to hear I waited 2 weeks for a negative battery cable because they where on back order and no dealer would sell to another dealer.

Yes, that is a PITA policy.

The way the parts manager explained it, made it sound like this whole policy was driven by HD service, to prevent one dealership from stock piling backordered parts. While I can see how that could be a problem, where does that leave folks like us? We are customers, we want to buy a part, we know where it is, but we can't get it.

Sure makes it difficult.
