2102 SEUC Inner Fairing hitting
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:51:04 PM »

Hi. New here to the forum, first post. Had a 2001 SE Roadglide a few years back and now I bought 2012 FLHTCUSE7. I've been reading a lot of different posts on different issues other riders have had. There are many things I really like about this bike so far. Only had it a week and just turned over 400 miles. It's on the list for a voltage regulator since it was built in March. No big deal here. Two things though, first is the heat. Man, it's been warm here in PA, around 90, but I keep looking down at my right leg to see if it's on fire! And that's while I'm riding! Second, and this really upset me. Ran around today, and from reading the manual, I saw that when you park the bike, turn the handlebars all the way to the left, turn it to lock, you can lock saddle bags, tour-pak and ignition by hitting the lock fob. So today I went some places and did just that. Wow, that kicks ass, right. I went to go out a little while ago, and guess what, the inner fairing contacts the tank, and now I have a paint chip missing from the inner fairing and from the front on the gas tank. I told the salesman when I pick the bike up, that it looked too close and he said that's the way they are and not to worry about it. Now I'm missing paint on my new ride. Called them and tomorrow I'm taking it back to show them. Not too happy!  :nixweiss: till today, heat was my only issue! Well I feel a little better, just needing to vent. Phew, I need to catch my breath, well thanks for listening!

Congrats on the bike and welcome to the forum.

I had the same problem with mine.  There's a good chance that it's just a piece of the clear coat that's missing or chipped.  The lead tech at the dealer where I bought mine moved the tank back and the fairing forward to duplicate the gap of other Electra Glides they had on the floor.  He then used a touch-up bottle of clear coat and wet sanded and then polished everything to complete the repair.  It looked damn nasty when I took it in and now you would never, ever know there was a problem.  I fully expected a replacement tank and painted switch panel was going to be required, but all it took was someone who knew what they were doing to both correct the problem so it doesn't happen again and repair the damage.

Well good news. Inner fairing and fuel tank look like new again. Polished the clear coat and now it's gone. :apple:

Install the Fullsac Stage I kit, or better yet the Stage II kit!  That will cure the heat problem!

Yea, I'm kicking around changing out the exhaust. Don't want to get it too loud. Been there, done that..don't mind loud pipes for sure, but now with the radio, I just want a nice mellow sound. Definitely checking out full sac, Vance and Hines, etc.

Hi JR, what have you done to your exhaust? Bob F

Hey Bob! :drink:

I went with the sleeper kit that Tommy linked to above. It is the Fullsac X pipe header, TTS tuner with preset map from Fullsac, and I went with the 2" Power Cores or baffles. No need to do anything with aircleaner because on our 12 SEUC they come with high flow aircleaner. When doing the 2" cores I had them install the packing or insulation back around the cores. I have heard of some leaving it out which makes it louder. I had the D&D Fatcats on my 05 SEEG then jumping on my 12 SEUC with Fullsac 2" power cores, at first I thought maybe I should have gone with the 2.25 cores but IMO after getting some miles on it, I love and appreciate the sweet sound from my 2" baffles. They have a sweet rumble to them and are not loud unless you get on it. They have gotten slightly louder after a few thousand miles on them but I can ease out of my subdivision on a early morning putt and not wake up the neighbors. ::) With the TTS and Fullsac premap, I am satisfied with the map for now but noticed an immediate difference in throttle response. It took the lag out when using the throttle, especially noticed at take off.

Like any exhaust it's a preference. I got to hear Tommy's (11hd110) before I got mine. Tommy has the sleeper stage II kit which includes the Andrews 54 cams. I figured I can always add the cam later and right now I don't plan on going with the cam. For me and my riding style (mainly 1 up) I have plenty of power with the stage 1. If someone around you has this set up go listen or if you come near the Memphis TN area I would be glad to let you ride mine and see if you like my set up. Good luck and God Bless! :2vrolijk_21:

Oops, this is what you call going off topic...Umm, I sure am glad my inner fairing isn't hitting my gas tank! There, back on subject! ;D See ya...

Well you guys got me wondering.  Checked it today and all is good.  Full lock left or right does not make contact - not much clearance but no contact.   :2vrolijk_21:

I found my lower inside faring touching the gas tank, it chipped the paint and Harley replaced both and made adjustments so it did not happen again.
