My exhaust must be holding me back.
« on: August 23, 2006, 01:35:34 AM »

I got the bike dyno tuned today. Almost 2 weeks after I had installed my Dakota Kid Marelli Throttle Body. The tuner was able to produce a good clean fuel curve. The bike runs a lot smoother now. However, it is still making the same numbers as before, damn near the exact same numbers. I know dynos are different, and numbers don't mean anything on the street, but I found it interesting anyway. I know the throttle body added something, because I feel it in the midrange and top end, and it is a heck of a lot more responsive. However it just does not show on the numbers. The tuner said it was one of the nicest running, well behaved Marelli bikes he has seen.

Anyway, I found a set of used D&D FatCats to replace my True Duals with.
I'm hoping that this good 2-1 will make the difference I am looking for.

It puts out 83.52HP and 90.30TQ. I love the way it runs, I'm just changing bolt on mods to see what the effects are. I intended to dyno tune it anyway since it was running rich and getting mpgs in the low 30s. Then I found a M&M TB for $60.00 shipped, and sent it to Dakota Kid to be reworked. I installed it last week. Yesterday I had it dyno tuned again, and the tuner was able to lean it out for better mpgs. I lost about 1HP and 4TQ with the retune. I'll see what happens to my mpgs when I ride to YellowStone, and Cody next week. So this week I learned that while a bored out TB makes the throttle a lot more responsive, it does not however, translate to higher numbers. Now I'll see what happens when I go from a good free flowing 2-2 to a good quality 2-1.
