Tour Pack Electric lock
« on: July 11, 2012, 07:38:52 PM »

Just discovered that the Electric lock on my tour pack is not activating either with the key fob or the dash switch, the saddle bags and ignition lock are working fine.  Has anyone else had this problem, probably another month until I am back near a Harley dealer for warranty work and would like to fix on my own if possable. the Lamp next to the light has power not sure if they run on the same circuit.
 Thanks for any Help

If you have ever locked your tourpack by the key and you didn't remove the key in the correct position, the power lock will not work on the tourpack.

Wrong advice-sorry.

Does that actually screw something up Bob?  Did HD build it without a failsafe for such a simple mistake?  Or do you just have to relock and unlock again with the key in the correct position?

Looked in the manual and I am not even close to being correct Don so thanks for bringing this up and correcting my wrong post for JM..   If he has power to the tour pack lock, he could have a defective electric lock.

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago with one of the saddle bags. It took me some time to find out that the electric cable was hanging loose under the fender and was cut off, most probably from touching the tire while driving. My dealer fixed it by replacing the wires.
Usually they should be wrapped in a protective rubber tube, but this wasn't the case on my bike.  >:(

I would check the cabling that leads to the lock, especially the hidden parts.

Also pull the liner and check the connections in the TP to make sure they haven't come apart. Might not have been securely snapped together in the first place.

Mine locks were working fine until I had some service done, then they did not work. There is a connector under the seat. The techs at the HD dealership forgot to reconnect mine. Might yours have come loose?

Guess i will have to get brave and pull the seat, and look for a connector, was it just the tour pack lock that did not work on yours or the saddle bag locks also? only three weeks until next planed service.
cheers mike

It was all of them, and the dash switch and fob would not activate them. Quick fix if that is the problem.

If you are getting power to the latch, but it still doesn't work, you may want to lubricate it.  I had an issue with the mechanism "sticking" and a bit of wd-40 worked.

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago with one of the saddle bags.

My left side saddlebag quit working somewhere between Alaska and Texas a few weeks ago.  On one of the mornings I actually got up early enough, I pulled the bag and inspected the connection and wiring back as far as I could see/reach... nothing seems to be broken, worn, crimped, or even disconnected.

Does anyone know what's inside the little box at the bottom of the saddlebags?  Could there be a hidden fuse somewhere?

Sorry, didn't mean to steal the thread... but it sounds like a similar problem.  :nixweiss:
