Dunlop Tires, anyone having issues?
« on: April 16, 2015, 05:17:18 PM »

Dunlop Tires, anyone having any issues???

I have less than 6 months on a set of tires, less than 7k miles and the tech at my local Harley Dealer just told me both are "weather checked".  My bike has spent a total of 2 nights outside since the tires were installed.  Even during the day it is garaged unless I am riding it.

Although I have wheel and tire protection through Harley, I am being told it is a manufacture defect, and Harley will do nothing to assist me.  Any thoughts, ideas, similar situations?

Thanks!

Where did you buy the tires in question?  Even tires that didn't come on the bike from the factory have a warranty, and the place that sold them to you should assist in making the claim.  I'm guessing these are Harley branded Dunlops and you bought them from the same dealership that's now trying to blow you off.  If that's the case, those tires come with a warranty just like other parts you buy from Harley, and Dunlop also warrants their replacement tires.  You need to talk to someone else at that dealership, or directly to H-D and/or Dunlop.

Check the data molded into the sidewalls for the manufacturing date code.  They may have sold you an old tire that's been sitting around for many years, thus the checking.  And there were reports of that sort of sidewall dry rot appearance even on factory installed tires a few years back.

Yes they are Dunlop Tires purchased at a Harley Dealership.  Thanks for the heads up, I will share this information with them and see their response.  Very disappointed with the customer service lately  :-[

Unfortunately for us most dealer personnel will blow you off hoping you'll just leave and they won't have to exert themselves with any effort remotely resembling customer service.  That's been my experience all too often.  Don't be belligerent but do be firm in not taking 'no' for an answer.

Take your issue and documentation directly to the Service Manager,. If he isn't helpful then the General Manager and if necessary the owner.  Many members here have had good experiences with Harley's Customer Support Area as well.

Please let us know the outcome.

I've had my front tire replaced FREE 4 times due to sidewall cracking. It took getting Harley and Dunlop involved but you can do it.

check out this link:  http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/info-center/warranty-info/

explains all the particulars, who is responsible for what, etc....  basically says that you should present the tire to the dealer that sold it, or if outfitted on the bike, the retailer of the bike.  if you have issues, call: 800-845-8378.

dunlops are warranted for 6 years from date of manufacture, or until the tread life is below 1/32''

Yes had my front replaced under warranty. Took some doing. Unfortunately as with all dealer related matters, you need to be persistent and get the right person. My favorite saying is I'm sorry you can't help me so, get me someone who can.
Good luck
