Mixing different brand tires
« on: July 14, 2013, 11:50:25 AM »

Need a new front tire on my '12 cuse7.  Rear tire is A-OK as I had to replace last fall due to nail in tire.  Still running oem Dunlop 407 & 408.  I really want to try the Michelin Commander II and wonder if putting a Michelin on the front and leaving the still very good Dunlop on the rear would present any problems.   :nixweiss:

Anyone else mixed tire brands?

I have a Dunlap on the back and a metzler on the front, they work fine together. I wanted to try the michelins but was told they do not make them for my 2008 SERK.

You're fine Jerry.  A bit of mix on separate axles is ok.

It might make a big difference if you were talking about changing one end to a super sticky racing compound and leaving the other end with a hard low traction compound, but since you're talking about two tire models that have similar tread patterns and wear/traction characteristics I think it would be fine to try the Commander II on the front while you wait for the Dunlop on the rear to wear out.  Just like when you buy new tires of any kind, take the time to break in the new tire and get used to any small differences in handling before you go out to set a new record on the Dragon though.

Thanks for the input.  Verifies what I thought. Tires are so expensive I hate to waste perfectly good tread.

The commute would be a bitch.  But don't forget, tire changes at Twolane's for beer :2vrolijk_21: !

Yeah, I thought about that.  Depending on when the moco get the motor to them and when Gail's buttons it up I may swing by your place and take you up on that.   :drink:

Have to see how it all shakes out as I have commitments to meet up with friends in Indiana and then Michigan in 10 days.  May be riding my 'backup' bike which is OK.  Heck it has a brand new motor also!   ;D

Keep having motor issues on the road and you'll start carrying a spare engine in the Bushtec Jerry.  Have to rig up some sort of quick disconnect system.
