2009 SERG Suspension upgrade
« on: June 26, 2013, 11:04:45 PM »

FINALLY. This is one of my first mods, and I'd knew this would be the first one done on this bike. What a difference it makes for the ride quality.

Went with the Progressive Monotubes and 944 with both having a -1" height. The stance is awesome and rides very well.

Also installed the Freedom Shields 12" recurve.

Love the 944's too.  Just put those on and yes, huge difference in ride quality.  Did you really notice much with the mono tubes?  Not sure the cost return on them will be as strong as the rears.

Yes!  Most who have gone to the mono tubes will tell you that is the first modification you should make.   :2vrolijk_21:

Installed rear 944's first, and rode for a couple days until the monotubes could be changed, and with the 944's on, it magnifies the sloppiness of the front end. Front end seemed soft with no responsiveness when riding over bumps, even small ones, and brake dive was horrible.

Now that's its all done, wow... this is how HD's should ride. Not bad for an upgrade. $823 for monotubes and 944's and 250 labor to install fronts. I'm very happy.

'Rode for a few months with the HD Premium Shocks, 'just had the HD Premium Double Fork Cartridges installed along with the '10 and later fork brackets (to accommodate the vented lowers). Now it is the way it should have come from the factory on a $30+k bike!!

That's a shame when we pay premium prices on a CVO that should have everything... Just think how much they'd cost with the upgrades from the MOCO...

At the time of manufacture, it would cost the MoCo maybe $200 - $300 max to install the premium shocks / forks, I would gladly pay $500 more for a new bike with those already installed rather than pay > $1k to have them upgraded.

What's the service life of the Monotubes?   I'm guessing they're not rebuildable.   Does Progressive give out that information?   I've had good luck in the past with Ricor Intiminators, but I'd be willing to try these if they last 50,000 miles like conventional springs.
