Moving my GPS unit
« on: September 21, 2012, 10:58:21 AM »

I have a 2008 Ultra Classic with a fairing mounted Zumo 550 GPS unit.  I am installing a set of custom Sweeping Beaters ( or meat hooks ) 12" handlebars (from BRcycle works) on my bike, and I'm afraid the GPS is going to be in the way (even if I try and pull the bars back some ).  My thoughts are to install a Harley fairing dash pad on the bike and try to relocate the GPS unit.  Any ideas on where I can mount the GPS?  Can it be mounted in the center of the dash fairing, and if so, how would I power it? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you for your help.  I'd like to find the post of the person that posted the pictures for an idea.  If you know the subject of that post, please let me know...

Kuryakyn make a fuel lid mount.  Here is a link to J&P showing the product:  http://www.jpcycles.com/product/606-372?utm_source=none&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&gclid=COGZrPOOx7ICFad7QgodMU4AKQ

Not sure I would like it, but might be an option for you.

Again,

thanks everyone for the input. These are all good options to take a look at. I'll know more once the bars come in and we start the installation process.  I plan on uploading some pictures once everything is complete. That way, if someone else is having the same problem, it might help them.

Mounted mine on left handlebar using a Kuraykan clamp and a Ram mounting system.  No holes to drill in the fairing.  I tucked my GPS in tight so that it didn't stick out or up.  I can't see the fuel gauge, but then it was useless anyway.

Centre mounted my GPS. Made a simple bracket after installing my new Yaffe bars.
