Rider position setup. Handle Bars 2010 CVO Ultra
« on: September 25, 2012, 11:13:15 AM »

Is there a specific way to go about setting up the riding position?

I am thinking of changing my handlebars I need about 1" more back, so I sit up with out rolling my back forward.  If I sit straight up, my arms are pretty straight, I would like a little more bend in my elbows.  I am not as comfortable as I should be
Maybe there is adjustment room?  Not sure what I can do with the stock bars.
Anyone have similar experience?
I know the Road Kings have a similar complaint and lots of riders change the bars to get relief in between their shoulders.
Let me know what you did to get your posture right.
Thanks

I've been thinkin' about a set of these....2" up & 2" back.
My initial choice was also the Klock Werks bars.
I had a chance to ride a street glide(about 100 miles) with the Klock Werks bars installed, and I noticed that my wrists were almost straight across (like holding onto a broom handle), and seemed "wrong"(for me).
Then, I was able to ride another street glide(just under 100 miles) with the Wild1 Chubby 575 bars, and my wrists were "angled back" similar to the stock bars, which was much more comfortable(for me).
I ended up installing the 575 bars on my street glide.
Based on that, I would suggest trying to set up a "test ride" before spending the money(and time) on either set of bars.

Thanks Guys;
I spoke to the Dealer Mile High in Aurora.  They have a Road King mock up bike where they can put a seat and different bars on to give a pretty good idea of what you are buying on and you sit on it.
I wont have time to check it out until the weekend.  They don't have Chubby 575's but can get them.  They do have the Ergo bars in stock to put on the mock up.
My Question now, is what about the types of bends should I be thinking about?

Shoulder, elbow & wrist comfort  :2vrolijk_21:

If those are comfortable, that's all you need  :)

If you only need 1" back, why don't you try just adjusting the stock bars a bit?  I ended up going with the Harley reduced reach bars which are supposed to be 2" higher and 2" back and they are OK, but I'd have preferred not to have the change in the wrist angle. I did sit on a buddy's bike with the 575's, but did not like the wider reach at all.  As such, every bar has some trade offs and unless you can actually try them in advance, it's can be an expensive crap shoot.

Based on what you are saying, I think it would be worth testing just loosening up the clamps, and rotating the stock bars back an inch and see how that works.  If it does the trick, it'll save you a ton of dough, especially if you would have to have someone else do a bar swap. Adjusting the stock bar is easy enough that anyone can do it themselves.
