EFI problems
« on: August 30, 2006, 02:30:47 PM »

I'm having problems with the EFI when I'm downshifting. It's not idling down as it should. Thing is, it seems to be an intermittant problem. In the early morning (when it's cool), it runs fine. In the afternoon when the temps are up, she's taking a long time to idle down if she does.

Luckily, I'm taking it back for a tweak on the dyno Friday. The program they downloaded was working fine. Has anyone experienced like problems? If so, how was it resolved?

Thanks,
Rick

Haven't had that problem but my '06 (like my '99) never seems to want to idle at the same speed.  It may be a little over a grand or below to about 850 to 900 it looks like.  Guess I'm anal (aren't we all with these beasts) but I don't understand what is so complicated about maintaining a consistent idle speed.  Is this something unique to an air cooled engine?  Don't recall it with my air cooled susies in the 70s and 80s.

I have noticed something similar...

When starting the bike cold in the morning (summer temps in the 60s) the idle willl ride higher for 7-10 seconds then drop down to say 925+/-50.  After riding for a few minutes, coming to a stop, the idle drops down normally

Then after riding a while, I have noticed that the idle stays high (1200-1300) when coming to a stop and takes 5-10 seconds to drop to "normal"

I have a PC, ness big sucker and rineharts...and was dynotuned.

How did you get that to fit your Fuel injected 06? What part #'s did you use?

Thank You

I had the same issue with my carbureted '99 Dyna, and with my EFI SEEG.

Rick,

Another item that can screw with your idle is a small vacuum leak.  I should have noted in my first post that this is the first thing to check, before messing with the mixture.
