2001 SERG Radio question
« on: July 05, 2011, 09:18:30 PM »

I am looking to improve the performance of the stock 2001 SERG Radio and was looking at the Hogtunes 5" x 7" Hybrid 2 ohm speakers with a Hogtunes 32 watt/channel amp with MAXXBASS.
According to my owners manual my stock system is 40 watt/channel with 8 ohm speakers.
I don't know anything about this stuff by Hogtunes says their amp and speaker system is an improvement.
My question: Is the 2001 SERG Radio, at 40 amps, bigger then the non SERG system? Is the 32 watt with 2 ohm 5x7 speakers an improvement over what I have?
Thanks

Do a search on the new Rockford Fosgate PBR 300 x4. There are some good write ups on the forum.

Your are also limited by the cd player in the tour pac. Go back 5 or 6 years in posts and a lot was brought up when harley went to the cd player in the front.

Let the cd player go and just use a cheap MP3 player or gps to store and play your tunes.  Doc

We took out our cd but how do I get the mp3 plug to work? I assume the cd player took its plug.

If you are simply bolting in speakers on that year radio, you shouldn't go less than 6 ohms or you will run the risk of damaging the radio.  If you are bolting in a speaker/amp setup from Hog Tunes they will be matched and you will use the speakers Hog Tunes supplies.

From 1998 until 2005 the speakers were 8 ohms from the factory.  This represents a high resistance for the radio amp to drive through.  Lower the resistance too much and the radio overheats/gets damaged (in simplest terms).  Installing 6 ohm speakers keeps it all ok and it performs and sounds better.

In 2006 they went to 2 ohm speakers.
