Horsepower Inc., Erie PA
« on: November 17, 2012, 12:27:36 PM »

Morning all. I was just curious if anyone has used the dyno tuning services of Horsepower Inc. in Erie PA? They're about a 6 hour ride from me in south western Ohio, but would be a small ride to take for superior tuning skills. So I just wanted to see if there was anyone that can share their experiences with them.

Roeder Racing is much closer to me, and most likely who I'll end up using for my final tune. I've run several V-tunes, and have the bike running very nice. But I realize someone with higher level of skill in tuning, and a dyno, will get the last few ponies out, as well, likely better fuel mileage too.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for the info Doc. Not sure yet who I'll end up with this Spring, the bike is done, with the exception of adding 5.3 gr/sec injectors, then time for the final tune. Heck, I'd like to take some time and head your direction for the final tuning. It's possible, never been to Florida, and would tack a few more states to my list.

Glad to have you come on down but I have to ask.....what kind of a build do you have that you have to install 5.3 injectors?

Doc, this was the 107 inch that I had so much trouble trying to v-tune, due to the D&D Fatcat bung locations, you had given me some advise as to location of the new ones I was putting in. D&D warranted the pipe, and sent me a new one without bungs per my request. I welded stainless bungs in to allow 100% of the probe in the exhaust stream.

It's as I said, a 107, 4.375 x 3.938. Static compression is set at 10.5:1, deck is at -0.005, Andrews 55 cams, the 50mm TB I cleaned and smoothed, the heads I also cleaned up the ports, and flattened the D shape about 0.03, and the Fatcat with new bung locations and correct depths.

When at high RPM in 4th, but mostly 5th gear, I'm hitting better than 100% injector utilization, and the motor actually breaks up when that happens. I recorded the incidents, and also noted the RPM when this happened, and they match up. So I know I've reached the 4.3 injectors abilities at high RPM.

With the new bung locations, it actually v-tuned in pretty good. Then I worked the EGR a little to get the lower ranges to run up the RPM's quicker, and run smoother. All in all, it runs great, I just know that someone experienced with dyno tuning, and TTS can get more from the motor. Anyone that I've let ride it says I'm nuts, that it runs fine, and is smooth idle on up. I know it is, but also know it's not completely on the table yet.

They're the stock 4.3 units.

Ok...if I where you I would go with the 4.9's not the 5.3 because the 5.3 will probably give you problems on the low end.......6000 rpm isn't as important as therpm range you ride in all day long.

Doc, what type of issues would you think I might see? Reason I ask, I have the 5.3 injectors, so planned to use those. I realize we don't run WFO all the time, but I ride a lot in the mid ranges, normally shifting at 4,000. I was seeing injector utilization in the 75% to 85% regularity when around the 4,000 range, depending on gear and motor load. And have always thought when regularly in the 80% utilization, you should go up in injector size.

I also was trying to avoid using adapter wiring harnesses, or rewiring the plugs for the 4.9 injectors. Do you really think I'd see much issues between the 4.9 and 5.3 injectors?
