I have decided to put a reverse on my SG.  Last year's accident makes it difficult to push it backwards.  My mechanic has installed the champion reverse in other MC's, so that is his recommendation.  Gonna do it sometime in the next month.

The champion looks like the way to go, as far as cost, and installation is a lot more straight for word, only
2/3 hrs work. :2vrolijk_21: I haven't done mine as yet, will be in the new year. Would like to know how it works out, and how you like it. Some pic's would be good once it's done!! Will; be watching for it.

You going to mount it to the fender?  Or just throw it over your shoulder?

till the early 80's hd would sell you a trans with 3spd forward and reverse...

nothing unusual about a bike with reverse

a little rare - but not unusual

It is my understanding that with the Baker electric reverse, you only get one speed when going backwards and in some instances this may be to fast.  The Champion reverse works off the clutch and throttle allowing you to choose the "pace" that you are going backwards.  Now I'm not saying that I want to go fast when in reverse but perhaps I may feel more comfortable controlling the speed in which I am moving in reverse.  Those that have installed the Baker, please give feedback on how you like the system.   ;)

It is not electric, the only electric part is a solenoid safety block to engage reverse, this prevents you from ever accidentally going into reverse. The reverse gear is actually a creeper compared to first. It is very controllable and is done with the clutch just like when taking off from 1st. To engage you must be in first gear, then activate solenoid (came with a momentary covered toggle switch, I replaced with a momentary flushmount LED) and push down on shifter again to downshift into reverse. When done reversing no solenoid needed, just upshift into 1st. I'll post a pic of the components it replaced.

I thought about the Champion unit too, but I like the fact that I'm still using the stock shifter for forward and reverse. Also just didn't care for the handle near the exhaust looking like a 'one armed bandit'

Thank you Pete for your reply.  I am going with the Champion for one BIG reason.  My mechanic is the "Man" and I trust him like my Dr.  He is the only one that I will even consider touching my scoot.  He has installed the Champion on more tham a dozen MC's and that is very reassuring to me.   :P. I'm not crazy about the arm shifter but if people ask me what that arm is for I've came up with some pretty good answers that will probably leave them speechless.   :zroflmao:

No problem, I agree, my guy actually worked with baker years ago. He's installed many and is the only one recommended by them in my area.

Let us hear some of them  :)  :2vrolijk_21:

1.  It's my turn signal switch  :zroflmao:
2.  It's my 7 speed overdrive  :zroflmao:
3.  It's my kickstand  :zroflmao:
4.  It operates my windshield wiper  :zroflmao:
5.  It kicks my MC into high speed for "cop running" mode  :zroflmao:
6.  It flushes my toilet  :zroflmao:

LOL, Judy.  Telling most people it's your reverse lever will be enough to leave them speechless!

How about:

7.  Nitrous
8.  Eject lever
9.  E-brake
10.  Power mirror adjuster joystick

:)
