8hp from muffler change
« on: January 18, 2013, 08:40:42 PM »

I put a set of Feuiling 574 cams in last Winter and a set of Boom Can mufflers had it tuned only produced 94 HP. This week after 11000 miles I changed out the mufflers for a set of 4 inch Rineharts made no more changes accept for a new tune and picked up 8hp to 102. Lessson learned mufflers make a big difference.

I tell everyone to fold the dyno sheet in half right on the 4000 RPM line. Now you have two sides to look at. The one from idle to 4000 and the other from 4000 to redline. Now go pay attention to what ranges you ride in, most people find that 95% of there time is spent on the idle to 4000 RPM side of the chart. IMHO where you want your gains to be should be where YOU ride most of the time. So for me the gains in the above chart would not offset the losses due to where I ride.

I have a bike that is "detuned" just a bit to get my power curve on the left side.
I gave up some HP on the top end (as we were playing on the dyno) just because I have another bike that is ALL top end!
My particular uses for THIS bike is long rides, 2-up, and the "stock" look. Depends what you use the bike for.
Mission accomplished!
JMHO, of course!
