SEEG 103 sumping oil
« on: January 04, 2013, 07:17:51 PM »

Howdy, hoping someone might give me some new ideas.. Have a 2004 SEEG 103, Took bike to HD shop to have new cams put in, HQ 575's Took out HQ 039's looking for better torque, also changed exhaust from fat cat to Supertrap to quiet the sound a bit. While in shop after cam change out. was informed the bike is sumping oil. Mech rechecked his work, twice, can't fine obvious prob, oil pump looks good, cam plate looks good. He blew air and oil through oil passages, everything seemed good. HP droped from 108 to about 60, on the dyno. He is going to try a new oil pump and a new cam plate, if that doesn't work, then he says he will have to pull the engine and split the cases to see if it's an internal problem. Any one have any ideas? Sure would appreciate any thoughts.

Did you actually see him pull the plug and see how much oil drained out? if it wasnt sumping before he did the cam change
then he messed somthing up. Did you retune this bike after all the changes you made I know you said it was on the dyno but did he make any changes.

L.A. Harley-Davidson, Lewiston, Maine, has used the normal large "O" ring on the back side of the pump, along with a very thin, smaller "O" ring, on the problematic bikes with great success.

Not enough information.  How did he determine it was sumping, did he actually measure the oil in the crankcase or did he just assume it was sumping due to the low power numbers?  Did he verify he had the cams timed correctly?  Did he make sure he had the oil pump installed correctly without tearing or pinching an O-ring?  Did he bother installing the O-ring?  In other words, there are many questions that are unanswered at this point.

I agree with buell95, if the bike wasn't sumping before he worked on it and it is after he worked on it, he did something wrong.  I would not consider letting him split the cases and charge you a bunch of extra money to supposedly solve a problem he most likely created himself.
