From 96' to 103'. Now from 103 to 113?
« on: January 10, 2013, 04:08:02 PM »

A couple of years ago I took my Road King from the stock 96' to a 103' with hc pistons and a 211 cam and liked it. I was now considering boring and putting on the 113 kit any thoughts or experiences?

Be sure to address the bottom end as the stock crank is just not up to par with the power potential of 113 cubes.  You will need a better clutch as well.  I have a 114 in my own bike and love it. I like the MoCo bigger bore cylinders as they have a nice long spigot area and have proven to be very reliable. You will need headwork to realize any potential of the 113 as well as a bigger throttle body etc etc.

I did a set of heads here in Seattle for a guy that has a 113 and now with over 60K it still will make 130hp, TW8 cams and 10.6 CR. We used Beehives springs and 7mm custom valves on that one.
I like the 113 for the same reasons cited by Razorback and agree on the bottom end reinforcement.

Whipped up a set of heads for a client of Classic H-D, in PA, with a 113"er quite some time ago.
With a Wood 9B, I believe they tuned that to 132/134, sae.
About where we use to see carbed S&S 113"ers land with the 9B, although to did have one that went off at 130/140, with a Wood 9F, S&S D, Thunderheader.......

The dealer is steering me toward the 120R instead of the 113 kit mentioning the crank and additional labour to get the 113 kit done. Any thoughts on the comparison?

No warranty with those, nor roller rockers, nor gear drives, etc.
S&S 124"ers have all of those, and if you bore your cases to accept an S&S 124" kit, you can still maintain your VIN numbers. :2vrolijk_21:
