soft rear brake - 2013 cvo rk
« on: January 13, 2013, 06:58:30 AM »

i have had three other baggers, non cvo, so i know what the rear brakes should feel like.  on my new cvo rk, i really need to get on the rear brake hard to get any stopping power.  it's almost uncomfortable.  is this something with the cvo's that will work itself out or is anyone esle experiencing the same thing?  granted, i still only have less than 1000 miles on the bike and plan to have it addressed at to 1000 mile service, but any insight would be welcome.

thx - tin

Have them check it, it should not be soft.  My 13 CVO King is not as firm on the rear as my 12 CVO Road Glide, however the front on the King is firmer than the front on the road glide.

The difference on either is not much, and I feel they work great on either bike.

If you feel it is too soft have them check it, fluid level could be low, or more likely some air in the line.

thanks.

it feels like it engages ok (like not air in the line) but just doesn't have the stopping power unless i really get on it.  i've never experienced the glazed pad feeling, but it's almost like others have described when this happens.

Had the same thing with mine.  By 1000 miles had good stopping power with the rear.  It was definitely different compared to other bikes????

2012 Street Glide, At first I thought there was air in the system, compaired to my Ultra (non abs) the abs is a softer feel.

I rode up to a comfortable speed (approx 80klms) and held the brakes firmly until bike come to a stop a few times to bed them in, notice the difference straight away.

Same here. Brakes have gotten better as I've put more miles on the bike.

I too have noticed that on my FLHRSE5.  I thought it was because the scoot has anti-lock brakes, which I have never had before.  One of the techs at my dealership told me to really squeeze hard on the brakes after coming to a stop the first 100 miles, I wonder if that had anything to do with the issue?
