Cruise Control Lag
« on: June 13, 2013, 07:58:21 PM »

The cruise control on my 2004 SEEG has always had a slight lag before it engaged at the set speed.  Recently, I rode the bike in continuous rain for three days and it started disengaging, then engaging before it finally quit working completely.  After I road back into the sunshine it started working again, but the lag is now more significant and it actually jerks the bike as it engages.  Any idea what could be wrong?

You may need to Calibrate the ribbon on the cruise control module.

I think I know what it could be.  There's a switch on the the throttle cable.   It colubrids be grounding out. There's some crappy insulation in there that disintegrates after time.  It somehow isolates the wiring in there that keeps them apart.  I played with mine for months and then finally stuffed a short piece of a cable tie in there and it's been fine ever since.   Let me know if that helps.   Stuart.

The lag is as likely to be the cable lash as Brad mentioned as anything.  Check the link attached to this post for a cheat sheet on setting the cable lash.

The rest of it is likely to be in any of the switches though.  An easy to way to troubleshoot the switch in the throttle cable is to just unplug it.  Find it on the right side of the frame just forward of the gas tank.  Two individual wires plugging in to spade terminals that come out of the throttle cable.

Switches on the handlebar controls can crud up too.  Open the housings and spray the switches with electrical contact cleaner than chase it with some compressed air.  Bet some combination of all the above will have you going fine.

Twolane has got you headed in the right direction, I always thought it was a manual cable adjustment.
