Many states will provide you with an equipment correction form along with your summons for a lighting defect. Either a LEO or an official state inspection shop can sign off that you've corrected the violation (put stock lens back on) within a specified time range. If you do it yourself and have a cop in that state sign it, it will only cost you a stamp to mail it. Unfortunately Florida wants more money so they'll only reduce the amount of the fine for a correction and the PD will charge you for inspecting it. Altogether its probably much less money than pleading guilty and mailing in payment though.

"If you received a citation for improper or unsafe equipment, under Florida State Statute 316.610, you are given the opportunity to elect a reduced fine payment. Please read the instructions on the back of your yellow citation and Mailer Information Form for direction.
In order to elect this option you must have a law enforcement agency, with the exception of the Florida Highway Patrol, inspect the vehicle and sign the back of the citation indicating that the defect has been corrected. This must be completed within 30 calendar days from receiving your citation. The agency will charge you a fee for this inspection. After you have completed this inspection process, mail the signed yellow ticket and a check or money order in the amount indicated on the Mailer Information Form to the Clerk's Office. No points will be assessed."

Statute.  We don't need no stinkin' statute!!

Kiddin' aside.  I've been running blue dots on my rear blinkers (2001 FLTRSEI2) for so long I can't tell you.  I've been stopped at "safety" stops.  Never been an issue.  No "amber" requirement here in the People's Republic of Illinois that I know of.

I did get stopped in another state, Tennessee I think, on my 2011 FLTRUSE because of gray lenses (amber bulbs).  AND THEY were STOCK CVO!!!  Changed them out for red lenses.

In my experience, the blue dot became popular in the 50's and 60's on hot rods and custom cars and eventually morphed over to bikes.

So those who had both a rod/custom put them on their bikesas well. Then the  aftermarket lense makers  started adding optional lenses with them already inserted.

I believe they are a added safety feature because they can be seen for very long distances at night when there is little light.  On trips, I have had truckers tell me at gas stations they could see my bike blue lights before they were able discern that it was a motorcycle in front of them.

I agree with the poster who couldn't figure out why you would put them on a CVO Stree Glide ot Road Glide lense. But that's a style thing.

Blue Dots and bells have a long history and many younger riders aren't aware of the history.
