Seat Stitching Coming Loose
« on: February 06, 2013, 01:25:34 PM »

Team,

Help please!  Anyone else had problems with the CVO seat stitching coming loose.  I have about a 1 inch area on the right side of my seat that is coming loose.  The bike was purchased in May of 2010 through Military Car Sales in Korea.   It has a 2 year manufacuturer and a 5 year warranty.    Any thoughts on if this might be covered or a recurring problem with 2011 CVO Ultras?

Others on this site have reported seat stitching problems, most recently on Road Glides if I remember correctly.  While the factory warranty would have covered defective stitching, it appears your factory warranty expired some time ago.  I don't believe the ESP covers such failures, but what is and isn't covered should be spelled out in the contract.

Jerry,

Just read your reply.  The bike was actually purchased May 2011.   So the warranty should still be good I think.

aha, again. In 2009 this complaint used to be quite popular, even H-D after some time had to admit it. Search the site and you will find ammo  ;)

There is a thread in the roadglide ultra area. I'm waiting right now for my new seat to arrive any day, but it seems the MOCO is going to fight me to the bitter end as it was ordered 13 days ago. After reading all the posts here, it seems that they won't do anything but fight until pictures show the foam under the cover and/or the black top of the fake leather tears away from the woven cloth underneath.

The guy at my dealer took pictures and told me that they also made him take a shot of my bike to see if it was clean  and nice so they could see if they could deny based on the bike was abused or not taken care of. So, clean her up and prepare for your fight.

only had my 2009 for about 6 months before mine started to unravel, got the same run around @ the stealer, bought a mustang seat. It fits tighter against the gas tank and is much more comfortable as well, I'm getting too old for long drawn out altercations beside I like the fact that I can just use the solo part.

They replaced mine but the same time the stitching was failing the heat part broke. My 2009 was replaced twice do to the front of the seat having the metal under it punch through.

Hello, my 2009 Springer had the same issue.  I took it to an automotive upholstery shop and he restitched the whole thing for about $100.  Not another problem with it since then.

I have a 2010 1/2 and it did the same thing.  I had mine done in quality leather.  Much better.

I've got an early 2011 CVO Road Glide Ultra that I purchased new in September 2010. The seat stitching started coming apart during 2011 and I pointed it out at the 5K service. Dealer looked at it and said they'd get with HD. HD came back and said it's cosmetic only and if it bothered me I should use a Sharpie to black-out the exposed white cloth under the leather at the seam. So rather than let it get to me I continued to ride until the leather opened up, stitching separated and exposed the foam pad underneath.

Went to a dealership event and mentioned it to the owner. Asked him what he thought and he said, "BS, you need a new seat under warranty!" So they ordered me a new seat and I suppose HD paid the freight @ ~$1200. The new seat has a different tongue section and the piece is overlap stitched instead of being edge stitched.
