2010 FLHXSE rebuild thoughts.....
« on: August 09, 2012, 10:00:18 PM »

I am rebuilding my 2010 FLHXSE that was involved in a garage fire, but only had heat and smoke damage.  I bought it back from insurance and my mechanic is recommending the attached build for a strong and reliable touring build.  We are also discussing a new 110 or 120r?  Please give me your thoughts.....

Sorry about attachment, but I had reduce the size to attach it.

Thanks,
Joe

Gotta go with the 120r... Seems like an awesome motor. I have been debating getting one for my 4 month old SERGC with 3000 miles but cant get my head around spending that much money but if I was buying a motor anyway...

So I went ahead with the build as suggested by my builder and found a dealer that gave me 25% off on all parts which helped to lower the cost quite a bit.  The motor is tore down, cases and trans getting coated wrinkle black and chrome coated black like the black CVO motors.

Just had crank checked and run out was .006 run out, which factory spec is .004.  Looking for some recommendations to make sure I don't have any future issues.  This will be my retirement, hopefully 100,000 mile touring bike.

Bike is located in Pensacola, FL if anyone has recommendations that is close to my builder.

Thanks,
Joe

hoban / dark horse - think about timken

or go with a 4 5/8 se

or - whatever suits your fancy.

if the crank is not perfect its not going to go 100k no matter how much you put into it.

Isn't runout still spected out to .012?  Mine ran at .008 for 70K miles till things went south. Had the works done to it and came in at under .001

You are probably right, I lack knowledge on the technical side and posted here because I wanted to know my options from all the smart motor guys here.  I hate to build a motor and then tear it up by not doing something that I need to do.

Actually, my builder is a retired Navy friend who went to MMI after he retired and worked at Heart of Dixie in Pelham, AL and Pensacola HD.  After he realized, as mechanic, you don't make any money doing low hour HD warranty work, he took a Gov Job on base teaching in our school house.  This is now a hobby and side income for him.

Talk to John at Darkhorse today and have decided to bite the bullet and get crank balanced, blueprinted and new rods.
