So Do They or Don't They?
« on: September 26, 2006, 02:56:44 PM »

Second question from the newbie.  When I first laid eyes on the black beauty at the Expo in Rapid City this past August, I asked one of the factory techs whether they had catalytic converters in the mufflers yet.  He hemmed and hawed a little, then said, "The right one has one in it".  I talked to another representative and he said BOTH had them in there.  Articles I've read say they replaced the older baffle-style mufflers with multi-chamber labyrinth ones without cats in them.  The dealer from whom I ordered it says he doesn't know, and the Regional Service Rep he talked to doesn't know  ::)  So, how 'bout it - one cat, two cats, no cats?

110 motor has catalyst mufflers. If you want to upgrade your 96" to a 110 and have a MoCo dealer do the work you have to install the catalyst mufflers. They come with the 110 kit.

I would bet both have it.  That's why there are heat shields.  BTW, the left never gets warm, and the right you cannot touch.

Figures about only CVOs having them.  At least the O2 sensor is upstream.   I've vowed to not make a lot of changes to this one - looked at what comes with the SERK and it covered most of what I'd do to a regular RK.  The wife rolled her eyes when she heard that... ::)  I've heard the 96" touring pipes and can live with them, even after having Longshots on the Fatboy.  Do the cat-equiped ones sound the same, and are the '07 regular 4" touring mufflers (non-cat) a direct swap?
