replace air filter
« on: March 23, 2013, 07:25:02 PM »

Looking to replace stock air filter with a roland sands turbine black/chrome contrast. Does anyone have pics of after market filters and comments? Will I have to have it re-tuned? I was told they can put it on ride it and see how it runs?

Replaced mine a while back with a performance machine filter in contrast cut to match the Ness deep cut floorboards and saddlebag latch covers. Bike runs great also have a ThunderMax tuner fitted with Vance & Hines pipes with blacked out mufflers...

pretty much all your free flowing ac's will flow more air than needed, so by just replacing one with another, you are not really changing any of the operating parameters that would require a retune.

I put the RSD Turbine on my '12 FLHXSE3.  I like the looks of it better than the HD Ventilator by far, but there are a couple things to consider.

It won't improve the performance over the stock Ventilator.

It sticks out further than the Ventilator, and extends into your knee space a bit.  Not as bad as the new HD ACs like the Agitator and Chisel.

It depends on the model of CVO you're going to put it on.  On my SG, there's no other black or brushed aluminum finishes, so the Turbine looks a little out of place.  The chrome unit might look better on bikes with lots of chrome like mine.  On the models with more black parts (like the '11 SGs and the '12 RGs), the Turbine looks awesome.

I'll try to post a couple pics

lilcot,
Thanks for the pics. I see what your saying on contrast. Think a chrome one is way to go.

I was never a blacked-out fan, but the look is growing on me. That looks really good!
