TBW stuck or sticky throttle?
« on: March 28, 2013, 01:31:15 PM »

This is my third TWB bike... first was an 08 Street Glide... no issues

Second was 09 SERG.. about 700 miles the throttle wouldnt return to idle unless rotated by hand.

Dealer found a piece of chrome from the backside of the rumble grips had come off and rolled itself up between the bar and the grip.

Third is Maple... (12 SERGC) 16K miles. Just did the same sticky throttle issue.

Bike is always dealer serviced... Fortunately I noted it with the CC on.. it would get jerky letting off the throttle, then finally I noted it at a light when I blipped the throttle on a downshift and the RPM stayed up at about 3K.

So 2 out of 3...

anyone else having this issue?

As an update: TBW unit (grip portion) was extremely stuck/sticky.

Dealer lubed it to make it better as it is my primary transportation... Will get it to them this week for replacement

i had a similar problem with my throttle, i loosened the torx screws holding the clamshell together and slid the whole unit away from the bike about 1/32''.  enough to take the tension off of the throttle.  no sticking or binding since (2010)

That was the first step the dealer tech did... nothing.. so he removed the entire grip and tried to rotate it by hand... No dice. lubrication helped, but it still isnt "right".

So... parts are in the store, waiting for a space in the shop and I'll drop it off. As long as I can ride it I'm happy.

At least the tendonitis flare-up is settling down now.

My '08 SERK had the TBW go bad. The replacement did just like yours does. No lube would fix it, it had to be replaced. It's a safety thing. Have them replace asap!

I had this similar issue with my 08 FLHX and now, after 12K, on my 2011 FLHXSE-2.  The latter just recently started to happen after I had it serviced and I was on the interstate.  Took my hand off the throttle in anticipation the bike would automatically start deceleration but it stayed put for two more miles as if I was on cruise control before it started a slow deceleration routine.  I'll have to take it back to the dealer and have them check it out.

Finally took it in... all good now.

FYI there are two different TBW twist grip sensors... one with a short harness that connects within the bars, and one with a long harness that connects inside the fairing.

The long harness is for those with the rest of the wires also routed internal.
