HD Windshield Mount for the Road Tech Zumo 665
« on: April 11, 2013, 08:10:11 PM »

Here's the scenario..  12 CVO Street Glide and a Road Tech Zumo 665.  Knowing I was going to change my stock bars to ape hangers one day I figured I wait to mount the GPS to the dash.  I don't like drilling holes in the bike especially the dash.  Good thing I held off because the apes come very close to the suggested mounting position over by the left side of the hydraulic clutch.  This position would partially block my view of the screen.  In the picture below my buddy has a 12 CVO Convertible which comes with the Zumo 665 and the MoCo mounted it to the windshield.  So I went on Ronnie's HD http://www.shopronniesharleydavidson.com/OEMpartfinder.htm and found the complete schematic and all the parts I need to do this. BUT I'm skeptical it will not be sturdy enough to hold it. Has anyone done this?  Do you think it would look out of place?  On a lighter side, if I don't like it, all I need to replace is the windscreen.  Rosco

How ya gonna get the cable inside the faring? I was lookin' at this a while ago and came to the conclusion that I'd need  "notch" right behind the windshield.

Right now I have the GPS mount on the bars on my CVO King.  I have been really thinking about doing the mount like on the CVO convertible.

Is that pretty vibration free and easy to read and use?

Item Number   Description           Quantity
6150W               Washer           3
2467               Screw Hex Socket   3
76000196   Inner Mount Bracket   1
76000194   Outer Mount Plate   1
76000195   Outer Mount Gasket   2
2994                 Thumb Screw   2
7118                          Washer   2
73000198     Inner Mount Plate   1
76000199    Pin, Inner Mount   1

Did this on my 2008 FLHTCUSE 3 Love the location, it does vibrate at idle, but I just have my 660 where the bottom touches the dash pad and the vibration is minimal.  I have included all parts that it took for me to do this.

I used UAVPilot's list of parts and mounted my Zumo 550 to an 8.5 inch KlockWerks Flare windshield on my SEUC3. It is a HUGE improvement over the handlebar mount: no looking sideways away from the road, easy to glance down just a little and see the map, much easier to read the captions and push buttons.

I don't use the audio functions of my Zumo, so that cable wasn't a problem.  Power cable is run along top of dash and down to the cigar lighter, same as when on handlebar mount. One note: If my w/s was any shorter, there wouldn't be room for the Zumo to fit--dash pad would be in the way.

I really like this mod. Good luck.

TRWTOW:  Looks like a good solution. Will it work with the dash pad in place?

I ordered the T & T Fabrications mount and hopefully I'll have it in a few days.  I have a dash on my SESG and will let you know what needs to be done to fit it and post a few pictures...

I also ordered the Harley windshield mount that's equip on the Convertible. Going to make the decision strictly on esthetics.

UAV Pilot has the list above.  Thanks man, that was very helpful.

Once I changed the bars to Yaffe, figured I would need to re position the 660 nav. I just made a simple bracket out of Stainless, and re mounted to centre of dash. Works well for me..
