Warning....Do not let this happen to you.
« on: September 04, 2013, 09:50:14 AM »

I did something really stupid.  When cleaning my bike, I sometimes use the bike lift so that I can spin the wheels and clean them up easier.  I happened to be doing this in my driveway and there is a slight slope to the drive.  When I lowered the bike onto the ground, it started to roll forward, the kick stand swung back and down went the bike.  Certainly took the enjoyment out of a good detail cleaning.  Moral of the story, ALWAYS PUT YOUR BIKE IN GEAR WHEN LOWERING IT FROM A LIFT.  This will keep it from rolling when it get put on the ground.  Common sense but after a combined set of circumstances, and not taking the time to do so, it ruined my day.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.  Hopefully not too much damage.

I too have a slight slope in my driveway and that almost happened to me once... Now I always turn my bike around before lifting it up so that it rolls back rather than forward.

Ouch!   I guess I am lucky to have a carport area which is covered and flat. I hope there is no damage to your bike. Thanks for the tip.

I always got into the habit of holding the front brake as the bike is going down. Thanks for the tip. Hope damage was minor.

Thanks for all of the good will.  Just scratched the crash bars and the lower lower lip of the lower fairing toward the bottom which can only be seen if laying on the floor.  The issue was that my niece ran into my garage door which forced me to wash the bike in the driveway!  Just has been a rash of oh chits.  Thankfully I did not encounter near the damage FX_TD did.  My CVO is no longer a virgin bike but only blemished.  Riding for 42 years and enjoying my CVO.

I do this, too.  You can never be too careful when putting these monsters back down on the ground.
