JR,

At least you were at home, mine did close to the same thing at 2:30 AM in Key West in front of Tony's.  Called a buddy that worked at a dealership and he explained how to get the switch off.  He was not happy being woke out of a sound sleep.  After he explained what to do he informed me I was waisting my time as the bike would not start again as HD had issues with switches.  Turns out he was right.  After getting a motel room for a short night I hitched a ride to get a U Haul truck and take the bike back to Ft Meyers were my motor home and the dealer were located.  Got to the dealer pushed the bike inside and a young employee tells me hey you can ride it back to service you don't need to push it.  In a polite but stern voice I informed him if I could ride it I would not be here.  Turns out switch was on national backorder, rented a new Roadglide for $50.00 a day and rode everywhere I could for 5 days waiting to get the bike back.  The dealer handed me a bill for $250.00 for the 5 day rental and had no charge on the switch since it was under recall.

Total out of pocket, motel room $168.00, one way truck rental $350.00, bike rental $250.00, trip from hell priceless.  BTW the transmission went out on my Motor Home for another $2,800.00 and 3 days in Chattanooga living in it on the wrong end of town at the transmission shop, but that is a whole different story.

Good luck with you bike.

Now, that's the worst/most scary part of your whole misfortune, right there. :nervous: :knife: :rifle:  spyder

Well, looks like I get to join this club today. Noticed my power lock wasn't working the other day. Locked it with the key. No big deal as it's going in next week for it's 15k service. Yeah right,,,, I get off work at 6:30 tonight. Climb on the bike for the 45 mile commute home and the damn switch won't turn. Uh Oh I'm thinking. Remembered that little release tab from the time I changed out the bars on my '02 EGU and had to remove that switch. Went digging for it, found it and got the ignition switch to turn. It's in the garage now waiting on next thursday to get here. I did call the dealer today and told him to add time to the service next week to look at it as it had been sticking.

haven't had the fork issue YET. but i did have the tank emblems start to come loose on the front edge. had dealer r&r them (both) told me they moved them forward a little. will check into ignition issues. don't need that hassle on 4 week trip coming up.

WTF is up with that JR and everyone else. The same day that I brought my bike home (after waiting 5 mos for it),go to lock the forks, turn the switch to fork lock and try and turn the key. The key binds a little and then turns and the whole ignition switch assembly (stem and all) came straight up. Well the dealer didly fuuked around for a couple of days like a puppy trying to bang his first football and then finally gets a hold of the Harley Rep for Deeley's.

This is the best part.......they tell him that they want him to check it out and not his techs cause it's top secret. They apparently don't want it getting out that there might be a problem with the fork lock/ignition assembly!!!! Helllloooooo, there's this thing called the internet and forums!! Do they actually believe that ppl don't communicate when they have problems and appear to be getting jerked off by their dealer or the MOCO. Shameful! You pay premium $$ for the CVO and then get this????

I now have to wait until they cut a new ignition switch to my key from the factory. What a cluster fuuuk that is. I can ride the bike alright; just not lock the forks. Sorry to go on JR but it behooves me if the MOCO has known that this has been a problem for not just this 2013 model year - why let it continue to be a problem for several years running??

Hiding known problems and not clearly identifying them seems to be the MoCo's way.  It would be one thing if they would get a recall with a permanent fix, but they just dance around these problems.  Is it part of marketing?
Maybe the expectation that the next model year will have the new cool stuff, with all previous problems solved.
