Average mpg??
« on: May 19, 2013, 05:58:45 PM »

What kinda miles per gallon are y'all averaging? Mine used to get and average of 43mpg on every tank full! Then I took it in for its 5000 mile service and when I got it back I noticed it using a lot of fuel, and when I checked it... It had dropped to 33mpg! Nothing in a 5000 mile service should have affected mpg... I ended up taking it back and having it tuned and dyno'ed. Came up a little but not back to where it was....any ideas???

Ethanol blend.  Different gas.  You won't get as good as mileage with ethanol.  It has less BTU's per gallon than gasoline. Are you using the same octane and same company.  Also make sure you are not using 15% ethanol.  It can actually damage the engine.  Let us know.  Good luck.

Agree with RCF, sounds more like a blended gas issue than mechanical.  For the record I have a 2011 ConV, dyno tuned with V&H big shots, and I get high 30's to low 40's with the gas in the dfw area.  when we ride out of state and occasionally get unblended gas I can get up in the mid 40's.

I avoid alcohol mixed fuels at all costs! Even started going to stations that have separate hose & nozzle for their premium fuel! Still not the outcome I was hoping for.....

Sorry guys but 10% ethanol won't drop mileage by 25% (43 mpg to 33 mpg).  I think I'd be looking for some other cause, even though I can't imagine what the dealer could possibly screw up on a 5k service that would reduce mileage 25% either.

In TX I average 41-45 MPG using 10% ethanol 93 octane and smart tuned with a HD SERT depending on my driving habits. I got bad gas twice on a trip and my mileage dropped to 38 MPG with normal highway driving. I averaged 50-58 at Grand Tetons NP. Your drop is significant and I suspect it is ignition related perhaps a faulty spark plug, wire not seated, etc. I'd take it to the dealer and tell them your story.

No, can't understand how gas can change it that much.  Driving style?
