Many threads on the poor quality and failure of the HD grips. If not under warranty, I'd suggest Heat Demons as a reliable replacement. The Demons don't heat up as quickly, but, I'm not worried about cold hands when I run out to get milk...I want them to reliably work when I 'have three hours to ride in the rain at 3*c to catch the last ferry'.

Grips were horrible on my 2009 CUSE - replaced them under warranty four times.  They died a final fifth time after warranty expired, and I allowed them to rest in peace.  Not worth the cost to replace, in my opinion.  They are handy for taking the chill off with thin gloves, but in cold weather (below freezing), the heat NEVER penetrated a set of Winter gloves.  My latest Gerbings have heating elements on both sides, so the grips are irrelevant for Winter riding.

That said, I am seven months into my 2013 CUSE, and the grips are still functioning (knock wood). I assume that there were design changes in the interim.

Weird.  When my Limited was destroyed in the wreck, it was 2 years old with 49,000 miles.....And the stock heated grips.  They never gave me a bit of trouble.
