2012 CVO Ultra Lower fairing speakers
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:30:57 PM »

Hi. Looking for any input on anyone who has added lower fairing speakers. Don't have much use for the compartments on the lowers, so looking to add more sound. Been looking at Hogtunes, J & M, etc. thanks in advance.

I've got the J&M 7.25" Rokkers installed in the bottom as an upgrade to just having the Rokkers in the fairing and rear with the 250W amp.

Frankly, it's a total waste of money. Originally, J&M guys installed the lowers running off the front channel of the stock HO amp and the 250w amp was running the fairing speakers. You couldn't even hear the lowers.

So, I ended up rewiring the amp to run the fairing and lower speakers in series off the 250w amp, and just the rears of the stock HO amp, and while you can barely notice them widening the sound stage a bit with the motor off, you just about have to put your head down to the tank to get the full effect.  If I stick socks over the fairing speakers, you can definitely hear them, but in the normal seated position, the fairing speakers totally take over. As a matter of fact, if one of the lowers cut out, I'd probably never notice it.  The fairing speakers are just closer and have a more direct path to your ear. Perhaps on a totally custom install, with more power on the lowers, it might work out, but with the same power as the fairing speakers, it's just not the hot ticket, imho. Looks cool, but that's about it.

So the net effect is, spend your money on better speakers or amp, and you'll be way ahead.

I was looking at doing the same thing. But after starting the project, I quickly decided the gains didn't out way the headache of it all. So I'm taking the speakers back. I decided the stereo and sound on the 13 cvo ultra was amazing by itself. Besides, I am looking at doing a detachable tour pak so I figured saddlebag speakers would serve a better purpose.

Well I have read so many post about installing speakers in the lowers.  Some say they are great and others say doesn't do much.  Well I ordered the new HogTunes FL7 REV kit for the lowers.  140W of power going to (2) 7" speakers.  Installed it today and all I can say is WOW.  It doesn't matter if the bike is sitting still or running 70 MPH down the highway.  The sound is incredible. If you every wandered if this kit was worth the money,  I am here to tell you that this system really had a punch to it.  I am sure their are other systems out there that sound Great,  but I can tell you first hand that the HogTunes FL7 Rev kit for the lowers is worth every penny.  Installation is not hard,  instruction manual guides you through the installation without any head scratching.  Took me about 3 hours to install the kit.  The sound is amazing on the highway,  you are surrounded by music,  Even at 70 mph,  I turn the volume up to about 4 bars, and that is LOUD.  It really is a Great Kit.
