Problem with speaker working on and off
« on: June 23, 2013, 06:45:24 PM »

My left rear saddlebag speaker cuts out.  When I turn it on, it doesn't work.  If I unplug the speaker and plug it back in, it works.  I changed the plug and it still does it.  I tried a different speaker and it still does it.  I upgraded the sound system a few weeks ago, but that was just the front.  An amp an different speakers for the fairing and lowers.  I left the stock amp in the fairing connected.  Any ideas?  Could it be the head unit.  The plug on the head unit seems good and the plug going to the rear speakers in the fairing seems good.  Thanks.

Amplifier, amplifier ,amplifier! More than likely its the amp. This has been going on since the 2010 SESG's came out (maybe longer but thats my experience in reading here) , mine included. I think mine just lasted longer than others. Thats exactly how mine started also and finally just got worse and worse.

There are a # of other things that can cause that , like ground wire problems etc, but I put my money on the amp.

Is there a way to check the amp?

I had similar problem except it was my right channel going dead when I fully turned the handle bars to the left....thought it was a weak connection cause by stretching a wire.

Pulled the faring and could not find problem......I mostly listen to music from my GPS....by dumb luck I switch to the FM radio and it started working....took the GPS out of the its cradle and compressed  cleaned the pins and cleaned the back terminal on the GPS.

BAM! problem solved :pepper: :pepper:

Not sure if this helps...but good luck!

I can't say. Im sure the dealership has a way , but when I got mine replaced they just shrugged and said it was the amp(s) and changed them , no charge, it fixed the problem.
I have a 2011 but had upgraded to the saddlebag speakers , hence I had two amps. My system was malfunctioning both front and rear so they gave me two new ones. No more problems. I have read on here where some have had more than one or two amps go out over time. If mine goes out again on my SESG I will just replace the whole stereo system as far as speakers and amp go.
