My last road bike was a 2000 Ultra with "highway" handlebars that H-D sold at that time.
When I picked up my 2013 CVO S/E Ultra and rode it home, I knew those bars would take a lot of getting used to.
The following weekend was a good chance to get some easy break-in miles on the bike since the weather was cooler so I rode to Dayton, OH and back (under 500 miles) and later that night my back (between my shoulders was killing me!).
I took the bike in and left it over the winter and had a set of WO 577's installed.
Definitely NOT inexpensive, but what a difference in comfort.
With my height (Over 6'-2") and having a long torso with 34" arm length, the seat to handlebar reach had me leaning over the tank and it was not an ideal position for distance riding.
The WO 577's sit a bit above the top of the fairing, which does add some wind on my hands at freeway speeds but I've added a pair of clear wind protectors for trips and I've also ordered a new 11" curved windshield from Freedom Shields to help with the buffeting and face protection.
I tend to keep my bikes a long time and there's no reason to suffer with an uncomfortable bike.
