2007 Primary Chaincase capacity
« on: October 29, 2006, 07:14:44 PM »

Dealer did the first service on Los Dragon and the 2nd was just and oil change. At 7,200 miles I just dropped all the Syn3 and replaced with AMSOIL. I was totally skeptical of the 45oz capacity listed for the primary chaincase till I drained it. I've been changing fluid for many many years and it was very obvious there was a hell of a lot more than quart draining out. Soooooo in goes 45oz as the owner's manual says.

Anyone got any idea why the MoCo jumped this up. I would imagine it would help it run cooler, but the drag from all that fluid in there must be awful. I know my buddies that drag race don't even put a quart of Royal Purple in filling it to 1/2 up the clutch.  WAZ UP ??????

Owner's manual calls for 38oz. wet and 45oz. dry.  If you only drained your primary, that is considered wet.

It also gets you to open /buy another $12 bottle.  Marketing.  I know that with the 1000 mile tune up, the dealer adds $35 for synthetic.

Just another WAG (wild-assed guess), but possibly the added capacity comes from the change to the primary drive for '07, with the outboard sprocket location and sprocket size change which necessitated a change to the primary inner.
