Open Primary for the CVO Breakout
« on: July 22, 2013, 04:55:17 PM »

Hi everyone,

I am no expert in this field, but would there be an advantage - except the looks - to an open primary on the CVO Breakout? I really find the performance machine one amazing, would there be any negatives and would it fit a CVO Breakout? Would the bike still ride the same?

Thanks for your help.

I don't think it is practical because of the wet clutch. Maybe someone else will trump that but that is what I think....

I have rode a few bikes with open primary's.  They were a pretty wide belt on them and it sure limited the lean angle to the left when turning on those machines.  They may have been lowered also.

Might just keep that in mind also.   But they do look pretty cool.

Thanks for the answers.

I have read some information that the open drive trains require the bike to run at higher revs, but not too sure why.

As for it being wide, the Breakout being already quite low, this could be a major issue.

How long would it take to install?

I put a BDL 1.5" belt drive on a 2000 FXST, that would allow a stock cover over it. Had the inspection & derby covers ball mill slotted for cooling and left the drain plug out. That's the way to go unless you want "Bad Azz Look", Remember the ride loss mentioned earlier. Bout $800. Time depends on your skill & how well stocked your tool box is.

I called PM today, the Breakout has a specific drive train and their model won't fit the bike. No plans to make one for the bike at the moment.

So that mod won't happen.
