Not really a solution but mine went out on my 2008 SERK around 12k miles. Dealer had to replace the micro-switch.

Check the obvious stuff first, like fuses.  Also check your brake light.  If either the front or rear brake switch is sticking on, the cruise won't set.  Then check the actual switch in the right hand switch housing.  They aren't sealed and can get gunked up or corroded over time.

If all those things check out OK, you may want to get the Electrical Diagnostics Manual and follow the troubleshooting flowchart, or just take it to a qualified tech who has the Harley test rig.  The '07 and earlier bikes use a separate cruise control module that contains electrical, electronic, and mechanical components that can also cause your problem.

This does not apply if you have TBW...

But if you have throttle cables,  the roll off swith may be bad ... the test is to unplug the two wires going into the cable roll off switch,  test,  if it works,  thats your problem ..

:2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:      I forgot that one, and it has been fairly common over the years.

j f go, follow the throttle cables back to where they run alongside the steering head area of the frame, right before they disappear under the fuel tank.  There will be two simple spade connectors with small gauge wires connected to one of the throttle cables, just disconnect them and see if the cruise will work.

Before you go too crazy, it only works after 30 or 40 mph, check your manual for the accurate mph.
