High Operating Temps - - - Sounds --- Oil Pressure
« on: October 17, 2006, 10:32:39 PM »

Hey all - In the mountains agian this weekend....and got stuck in traffic...After Three 07 SE bikes (Four including my wife's), I fully understand the Lifter Block Ticking sounds.....but this was different.

After being stuck in traffic for about 45 min, my oil pressure was VERY low at idle....I have heard (from Dad) that there was a fix for pre 07 modles that was from Zippers.....

1.  Engine Temp (in 40 degree weather) was 289 prior to me stopping the maddness.
2.  The Tappets were SCREAMING at me for about 2 minutes prior to me stopping the maddness.
3.  Oil pressure Very Low...

Any thoughts - What do your temps run at???

Those oil temps (if that is what you're talking about) are abnormally high...my bike does not run those kind of temps even in 100 degree ambient.

Even with that oil, those temps are abnormally high, if accurate.  It is my opinion, and others as well, that the Syn3 oil is inferior to other products in almost every respect.  Do you have the engine temp management system activated in your bike?  At those temps, if activated, some shutdown of systems should have started ocurring.

How are you measuring temps?

I got stuck in a short 13 mile uphill stop and go "holiday" crunch here in AZ with temps around 107.  I could feel the temps raising.  Tried weaving in an out of traffic but could not get enough speed.  Engine started to go into the heat manangement routine and I started getting the pinging noise along with everything else.  I had pulled over earlier as the new digital oil stick came loose and puked oil over my pipes.  I pulled over again and after reading the temp, I decided I needed to break the law!  Fortunately the shoulder was pavement and I ran the rest of the way at about 25-30 with my flashers on.  At the top of the hill I stopped again and checked to see the temp and was amazed at the reduction in oil temp.  (hmmm maybe I need a parade fan...)  What amazed me more, were the folks that attempted to stop me from running the gutter by pulling over into my path.
I run Synthetics and was told by the dealer the Oil Pressure at idle after warm up will read low.  At higher revs not a problem.
Will think twice about riding late in the afternoon with the "get out of town" crowd on a holiday weekend!

Thanks - I talked to our mechanic (super guy) who recommended cams, shim and other additions....but my wife has got to think about it for the temps  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] .....I just bought v&h headers, SERT and Zippers Air cleaner (Big one) so we will see how things go after it is tuned more properly....

Remove your engine oil dipstick and see if your engine oil has a burnt smell.

:o Those temps seem high. however, I have never been in those conditions Smell and change the oil ASAP if it even smells a little burnt. The fan kit may be your best option if you ride like this a lot.

Oil temps (if the dipstick is right) of 220 to 240 is not all that hot for the 110.....We have had 5 of the 110s in my family and they all have ran over 220 during break in prior to SERT and other mods.....I just hope this drops post this....
