FLHRSEI2 Stator Going, I believe
« on: August 12, 2013, 07:19:13 AM »

I believe the Stator on my FLHRSEI2 SE103 is going.

It now seems like going up and incline from 45 - 60, with increased throttle position, the ECM Engine litght will illuminate. When I decrease the throttle position or reach the top of the incline, the light will go out. Above 60 on the Turnpike or Interstate the light never goes on, up hill or with increased throttle position.
The light stays off probably 90% of the time, so the battery stays charged.
If I had a Voltage Gauge, I could check to see IF the output is dropping.

Question: Should I replace just the Stator & Rotor? OR Stator, Rotor and Voltage Regulator?

Many Thanks

Open the primary up.  If the fluid smells burnt, it's the stator.  Dunno about your mileage, but your bike is nearly 14 years old.  I believe I'd replace the regulator too.

Issue resolved.

I was told that the Engine Trouble Light has to remain On for more than 8 seconds for the test Compuer to detect the issue.
I rode it enough to keep the Trouble Light on for more than 8 seconds.

Took it to the HD Shop and had them put the computer on it.

The Computer reported "No Combustion rear Cylinder"
rear Coil intermittent

Really hard for me to believe that I could not detect the V-twin running rough at 50 - 55 mph. The Trouble light would never come on above or below this range.

So anyway Possible causes
Coil
Plug Wires
Plugs

Decided to change my plugs before returning to dealer.
rear Plug wire looked like it was soldered onto the Plug. Closer look , it appeared like cold solder.
Played with it a bit , then rode the bike. No Trouble light in 100 miles, all terrains.

Since it is 10 years old and I intend to keep it, even if I buy another CVO.
I ended up changing Coil, Plug Wires and Plugs.
Tood it for a 300 mile trip to test out the Indian Chief.

Ran perfectly. After 120 miles of Interstate Spped, filled gas tank. Averaged 42.5 mpgs

I have recently been getting 37 - 38 mpgs and on miracle days 40 mpgs.

Is there a List of Error Codes somewhere?
Would this have shown up on the On/Off Switch Dash Trouble Check?
