Heated grip
« on: July 19, 2013, 05:06:26 PM »

I know there are threads covering heated grip issues, but I haven't come across this particular question. Forgive me if it is out there.

Just had new handlebars installed on my FLHTCUSE8. In riding back from the shop, I turn on the heated grips to be sure they are working. Nothing. Had them on setting 6 for 20 minutes and no change. Do these things only operate when the outside temp is at or below  a certain temperature? It is 93 here today. Trying to get as much info as possible before going back to the shop. It was not a HD dealer that did the handlebars.

Thanks!

Ambient time is irrelevant.  You've got a problem.  (Unless it's just do damn hot you can't feel the heated grips compared to the rest of the world.)

I pitched mine a long time ago as they crapped out.  Went for the Rolland Sands grips. Way more comfort and style IMOP.

This might seem overly simple, but check the fuse. I have had the fuse wink out 2x. Otherwise, the heated grips work very well.

Had the exact same situation: changed bars and grips would not heat up.  It was not the fuse.  The plug in the right grip was not seated all the way.  Pop the end cap to check.

Either the installer didn't do the heated grip wire extension properly or they crapped out like everyone elses. Mine crapped out before my bar install so I never re installed them, plus Houston doesn't get cold enough for them.

Good news. Popped the cap off the right hand grip, and sure enough, the plug wasn't in. Plugged it in and now the heaters are working beautifully. Thanks HDultraDad!  :bananarock:  :bananarock:  :bananarock:
