I had an older Handy lift up in MI with side extensions, but when I moved to St. Louis MO, I had to sell it.
I bought a HF manual pump table lift when I got back into bikes here. These lifts are hydraulic with a foot pedal for lift and a foot pedal for releasing the pressure to lower the table.
With the cylinder horizontal, there is no bleeding to do. The cylinder will scavenge the air out the top and self bleed.
I would pump it up empty and then get a stepladder and step on the table to see if its spongy under your weight. If it does, it's only pumping up using air and not oil. It could then be low on oil. Fluid does not compress so it should be solid under your weight.
I guess the pump could be bypassing under pressure, but that would require a whole new pump assembly.
I know people here look down on the HF lift table, but I've changed out the pivot bolts with grade 5 bolts and the welds are all great across the board on my HF lift table. I've used it for all my bikes and currently ave my '76 FLH on it patiently for me to replace the rear head. I've not had any issues with mine and I just strap everything down when lifting. I have no reservations of putting my SERG on it for maintenance. It's not as convenient as my old Handy lift, but I don't go up/down more than a few times a month.
