42k Miles and the Extended Warranty is paying off
« on: August 20, 2013, 05:21:48 PM »

I took my '11 FLTRUSE to Colorado Springs last weekend. Climbed Pikes Peak and Mount Evans further north of Co Springs. Each above 14,000 ft in elevation. On Pikes Peak my clutch handlever lost all pressure and turned to mush. I was able to switch between 1st, Neutral and 2nd. I made it off the mountain. After that I noticed that I seemed to have clutch slip and I could not hold cruise control in 5th and 6th gear. If I tried to accelerate, the motor revved with no additional power to the rear wheel. On the way home I confirmed several times that any need for quick acceleration in 5th or 6th could not be achieved.

In the shop today with 42k miles;

- clutch plate replacement, rebuild
- discovered a worn bushing in the tranny case at the foot shifter to be replaced
- and an oil leak underneath (not sure exactly where)

Extended warranty is covering most of the damage. My end will be around $230.
Wondering if this is normal, to be expected, or am I riding my bike hard?
