Starter Gone Bad 07 SERK
« on: October 08, 2006, 09:27:04 PM »

I had to take my SERK in to my local HD today for a bad starter. Was out riding with my Parts Manager and Lead-Tech, stopped to give her a drink, and when I turned her over she screamed out with a terrible howl. We damn near ran for cover, sounded like she was going to spit out shrappnel. So, the gear is not engaging and she will have it warranteed. From what I was told, the 07 SE Touring models have the new starter that came out on the '06 Dyna's, and they just do not have enough ass to turn over the big bore's.
Anyway, I'll give an update after they it tore apart.

See if they'll let you pay he difference and get the chrome one. It's not that expensive if they let you upgrade. This may be a blessing in disguise. You know we have to feed that OCD!!! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Sorry to hear about the starter issue.  What else did it damage?

Hmmm??? If there is any damage to inner primary this would be the ideal time to go to chrome inner primary w/just paying the difference. ;)

Ok, I know I've got OCD bad, but if I can help someone get chrome at a savings (difference in price of regular part vs. chrome) I just can't resist. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

D00d,

You are definitely the best at spending other people's money  ;D  Seriously though, whenever you can change out black or silver for chrome without having to pay labor, etc, do it!

Damage report:

The damage was limited to the starter clutch. Two teeth were broke off, but no other damage was done, thank god. As for OCD, no therapy for me this time, chrome would have been full price. Oh well.   :'(

Glad to hear that they are getting you squared away. Sorry that you couldn't get any chrome out of it though. :(

Not true.  It's a high output starter.  H-D had to go to this starter due to the cases and mounting of it.  Plus, your motor has automatic compression release to help the starter out.
