fxr2 mikuni carb and idle question??
« on: September 15, 2013, 01:33:01 PM »

I've got hopped up fxr2 with mikuni carb, branch heads, crane ignition, ev59 cam and having trouble with idle. New intake manifold from JET, no air leaks from  there. We've played with air bleed, adjusted idle, rode some and idle drops from set of 1k, to 800, rode some more idle moves up to 1200, rode more idle changes again. we cant seem to figure out what is causing the fluctuation in idle rpm. Any ideas?  We are kinda stumped. let me know via email if anything we are over looking please dbrandsma@aol.com, or hdfxr3@aol.com. thanks! Dave!

What pipes are you running? You named all the mods except the pipes.

First things first. Is this a new build? So the bike has never idled "properly"?
Or did the bike run fine for a time then changed?
How have you checked for intake leaks?

Bob, intake leaks fixed, new intake manifold from JET (Johnson Engine technology) in RI. Problem seems to settled down since new intake. prior to this i'd ride some idle would increase, ride some more it would decrease. pipes are python. has been riding fine for some time, than all of sudden idle drops to 700 rpm and almost dies...so we replaced RAM JET intake manifold with new JET manifold. No intake leaks as of now, and idle rpm is holding steady after bike warms up. bike only has 7500 miles on her, came to me with branch heads, mikuni carb, crane inanition, ev 59 cam. she was dynoed at HD of Cartserville, ga. at 80 hp and 85 ft lbs of torque..with old intake manifold and they said too rich, so i installed smaller jet from .250 to .225..she is running fine outside of problem with idle. i'll ride it some more this weekend and see how she runs. JET folks in RI are really good on performance and gas mileage..i wish they were closer..i'd have them flo and blueprint my bike..i intend to keep this bike.  I do have her twin for sale fxr2 arrest me red with 35k miles for 7500.00 and no riding issues. she has thundeheader pipes, stock carb, stock cam etc. call mde if interested 256-282-5023.
