My 13's audio has decided to quit on me
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:15:45 PM »

I got caught in a terrible rainstorm this past weekend. I remove my iPod to change up some songs, then plug it back in like always. Well,it started playing fine, but I couldn't change tracks or volume. I pulled over unhooked the iPod and reconnected and the volume and track select in the handlebars worked fine for about 2 minutes, then nothing.  I removed iPod and reset it,nothing tried another iPod,even my iPhone and nothing. All you can hear is faintly playing with a bunch of static. Doesn't seem like the hand controls, because you would think at least one side would work. But I got nothing, kinda bummed, but taking it to the dealer on Friday.

Have you unplugged the connection at the saddlebag, let everything dry out and then tried again?  Haven't had any issues in the rain yet, but mine acted funky after I washed it once.  After a few hours riding around with things disconnected and in the wind, all was back to normal.

Unhooked it now,and I have the fan blowing on both connectors. Man I hope this works. You said yours was acting funky, were they the same symptoms I am experiencing?

Maybe not exactly the same, but similar for sure.  Hopefully, it's just still a little damp.

Well did it work? Washed mine the other day, now no music. I looked at the ipod and I can't get it to turn on.

Yep,I put two fans on the connectors overnight, and plugged it back in the next morning. It works just like it did. I guess water got in somehow,I sprayed them with some waterproof silicone,so hopefully no more problems.

I do more preventive detailing than a lot of full bike washes, but this is good to know for when I do.  I'll probably try to wrap them with something whenever I do wash it.

OK, I try to work on my own bikes rather than taking it to the dealer although they may still be under warranty. I don't have mush experience with this audio set up. Where are the connections? Are you referring to the connectors on the bags?

I believe that's what he's referring to.  It sounds like the plugs where the cables plug into the back of the hard bags may not be watertight.

Talking about the iPod cable connection at the right saddlebag.  The one you have to disconnect in order to remove the bag.

Whenever I have washed my bike with the saddlebags removed I have used the plastic covers that came with the bike to cover these plugs. So far so good....knock on wood!! :2vrolijk_21:
