Aluminum Swing Arm for FLHTCUSE7
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:36:16 AM »

Has anyone installed an aluminum swing-arm on an 09 or later model touring bike.  Can someone tell me what advantages or disadvantages to installing an aluminum swing arm to my 2012 CVO Ultra?  I know there will be weight savings (not sure how much). I also don't know if it would have a measurable effect (unsprung weight) on performance.  Would it be significantly more rigid?  Would it be stronger?

Here's the swing arm I was looking at; http://sputhe.com/aluminum%20swing%20arms.htm

Any help would be appreciated!

Wow!

The difference in unsprung weight should pay HUGE dividends in ride comfort and handling.  I'd love to put one of both my Ultra and my Night Train.

if you decide to go this route, you may have quite a wait ahead of you.  according to their website, aluminum swingarms not in production at this time......

i wonder why?  any problems?  not enough demand?

I can't imagine there's much demand for them.  Still, if it's not stupid expensive I can see that being a really worthwhile upgrade.

Yeah, I saw the production part, but I was thinking he's probably building them on an individual request, and as also stated there's probably not a big demand.  Anyhow I have emailed Sputhe and will see what the deal is. :nixweiss:  Seems like a nice upgrade.

I sent them an email as well.  If it's not too expensive I'd buy one.  Thanks for posting this!

Bad news, I just got off the phone with Sputhe, & they don't make the swing arms anymore.  Probably no demand! :nixweiss:
